Aging flatscreen and holo starlet Hillary St. Cloud literally has a new
lease on life. The ailing 106 year-old actress recently underwent a new and highly
controversial procedure in which her personality was ""electronically
transplanted"" into the body of an unidentified 24 year-old female. The unknown
doner's personality was in turn reportedly stored in special a cyberdeck program. The
radical procedure was performed at Ms. St. Cloud's New Hollywood residence by Dr. Clyde
Krasskov utilizing a process referred to as ""neural identity
transfer"" or NIT. According to Krasskov, NIT ""downloads""
the complex electronic patterns which comprise a person's memories and personality from
one brain and transfers them to another brain via a temporary neural link.
""Its sort of like net-running your mind from one brain into
another,"" joked the jubilant Krasskov after reviving Ms. St. Cloud in
her new body.
Several close friends, including Ms. St. Cloud's press agent, Fred Moot, were present
during the transfer process. Moot spoke to reporters afterward and commented that the
operation was a complete success.
""Its our same old Hillary, only now she has a brand new body and a
whole new career ahead of her,"" Moot remarked.
Others were not so convinced, however. Former co-star Ed McNeill commented that, ""She
couldn't even remember that big meteor shower that hit while we were on location shooting
Star Trek LCXXVIII back in '58!"" (McNeill's grandson and actor Luis
Franco McNeill is rumored to be co-starring with Ms. St. Cloud in the upcoming holo
""Star Slaves"", which is scheduled to begin shooting on location on
Kwantung in October. - Ed.)
Krasskov quickly countered that memory gaps were to be expected, given the vast amount of
information that had to be transferred.
""Her memory will come back to her in time"", he
said, then added that, ""Hundreds of people have already signed up as
prospective doners of host bodies and transfer patients.""
The AMA is currently seeking a court order barring Krasskov from performing any further
NITs until the procedure can be independently verified. However, Krasskov reportedly is
already building a clinic in Tampico using a donation from Ms. St. Cloud and expects to
begin performing routine NITs before the end of the year. (NewsNet)

Anchorhead, New Canberra (Alpha Centauri) |
A group of ten Sung arrived in Anchorhead aimed at 'helping their human
friends join the Universal Brotherhood.' While such spiritual movements were not
unheard of in human history, the fact that Sung are prostelysing to humans has created
controversy among the religious leaders of Anchorhead. 'I find it completely
ludicrous!,' said Javier Martinez Ornelas, Novo Catolico bishop of the Pampa,
representing Novo Catolico's in the northeast of New Canberra. 'These
stubby, winged aliens thinking they can turn the Faithful from the True Church?
Completely laughable.' However, attendance at meetings
put on by the Sung, led by Chi'kaa'si, have drawn many to Anchorhead in the last month.
Leanne Tong of the Northeast Outback Tourism Promotion Bureau said, 'So Trippies
fromthe rest of NewCan are coming out here to see the Sung. Who cares! The hotels and
campgrounds haven't been so full in weeks. Perhaps while they're here they'll enjoy the
natural desert beauty we offer as well. Believe me, we're quite pleased Chi'kaa'si and his
mob decided to come here.' (Wayne O'Hara, The NovoCano)

New Canberra (Alpha Centauri) |
The conflict over the Santo Cristophos Shrine between the Roman Catholic
and the Novo Catolico schismatics has been referred to New Canberra's highest civil court.
The Court of Civil Appeals has agreed to hear the case at the New Canberran capital
ofBennelong. Both parties were stung by the Windborne Civil District Court ruling that any
monies donated by pilgrims be split by both parties. Wilson Tanaka Amorim, the lawyer
representing the Roman Catholic church from his office in Vittoria da Conquista, Provincia
do Brasil said, ""Excellent! It is time we had the chance to defend the
True
Faith and it's property from the upstarts. History shows that the militarists of the
Instituto Nacional de Astronomica Practica were behind the schism during their first
agression against Brasil, right after the Vatican denounced them. I shall do my
utmost to defend Church
property against their so-called 'Novo Catolico' heresy."" Kylen
Stevens, the New Canberra Police Commissioner for the Santa Maria district said, ""It
really isn't going to settle anything either way, whether the Vatican or Montevideo get
the site. Pilgrims of both sects will still come during the Santa Escuela period, and it
will be all we can do
to keep them from killing each other.""

Recent reports out of the Kie Yuma system have indicated that the Trilon
corporation has come into the the possession of an damage, but intact Kafer Beta-Class
cruiser. The exact details of the capture are unclear, but Trilon officials have
denied the rumor. Archibald White, Trilon's Vice President for the French Arm stated
that "There is simply NO way that Trilon could have over powered a Kafer
capital ship without the help of a major naval force. Why would any of the
allied navies allow us to maintain possession of such a valuable intelligence trove?"
Despite the denials, there have been substantial rewards offered for hard
evidence of the captured Kafer ship by several of Trilon's rivals. (CNN Today) |

AusCo admitted today that the Cabeza De Vaca survey vessel will
be moved back to Earth in the hold of the Stephen F. Austin cargo vessel.
The press release by AusCo stated that "The De Vaca still has several
problems with the advanced sensor software that was written just for this vessel.
The vessel will be turned over to the Republic of Texas and used for its commitment to the
Orbital Quarantine Patrols. This will allow the ship's sensor system to be tested
and upgraded to its correct level of accuracy." AusCo's stock
tumbled drastically once the delay in the construction of the remaining ships of this
class was also announced. "There is no need to continue to building
these ships until we can deliver a vessel that is capable of meeting its mission
requirements." (Aerospace Monthly) |
